Since 1980, I have been teaching ongoing acting classes and working extensively as a private coach in Los Angeles and New York. From 1980-1988 I spearheaded The Sharon Chatten Studio in NYC while also teaching at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute as well as for Warren Robertson and Larry Moss.  In 1988, I permanently moved my studio to Los Angeles. Before committing full-time to teaching,  I  had leading roles as an actress in  numerous plays including  Hillbilly Women directed by Arthur Penn, The Chain written and directed by Elia Kazan, and Jungle of Cities with Al Pacino and directed by Liviu Ciulei.  Among many film and TV roles I played Jan Stennis in the critically acclaimed film Over-Under, Sideways-Down. I have been a member of The Actors Studio since 1975 and Ensemble Studio Theater since 1980 and have been a guest resource artist at the personal invitation of Robert Redford, for the Sundance Film Institute. I have lectured at Yale, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, and USC School of Cinema.  The client list above includes students who have been in my classes and/or worked with me privately.  I still work with many of them currently.   I have had the honor and delight to work closely with film and theater legends Lee Strasberg, Elia Kazan, Arthur Penn, Harold Clurman, Robert Woodruff, Liviu Ciulei, and Al Pacino.   I thank them for the many lessons they have taught me that I continue to pass on to my students. Helping the next generations to remain inspired and compelled is important to me.

ONGOING ADULT CLASSES - Classes include relaxation, sensory work, scenes (from theatre, film and television), and improvisations. Sharon teaches all classes.
